The Autistic Girl Learned To Tie Up Her Shoelaces In Just 2 Years

Kati, the autistic little girl was 8 when she joined our class. She had had lags in plenty of fields. Her speaking was unclear, her movements as quick as lightning, her hands clumsy. Together with her parents we compiled a development plan in what we ordered tasks into a raw according to importance.

Tying up the shoelace came to the end of our list. As it was easy to replace with a Velcro shoe. 3 of her 6 classmates were able to tie up shoelaces. Kati saw them tying up the shoelaces, but it didn’t bother her in the beginning. Later she asked us to practice. After 2 years and 4 months, at the age of 10 she tied up her shoelaces first in her life. She was really glad about it. Another year was needed to be able to tie it up steady and quickly. Not a miracle happened. It became one of the fruits of the result of a complex development work. She was able to split the phases of the bandage process into steps in head, but it took time to harmonize them.
